I never dreamed we would buy a fixer-upper, actually, I never believed we would live on Wellington Drive, BUT....never say never!!! Walker and I searched for the PERFECT house in Jackson and although it took us some time we found it. Davis just couldn't quite understand why this was the one, renters had destroyed it and the before pictures are not true before pictures. The house was listed several years prior to the renters moving in so it was in much better shape when these pictures were taken. Unfortunately, we dealt with lots of holes in the walls, can you say anger management and broken windows and random other things but we saw the potential and went for it.
After 9 weeks of remodeling, living with my parents (thanks Mia and Pops), an amazing contractor that taught me so much (he didn't teach me to get the gash in my face from the crowbar!), having all of our belongings in a 3 car garage for months, we were able to call our Wellington house our home! It has been a work in progress and the entire process refined me! I was essentially the project manager and mommy and most days I broke emotionally but all in all we love our new house and it was worth all the blood (literally), sweat and tears.
I will never forget one day when I was particularly having a rough time and I said Davis if we knew then what we know now would we have done this. In all his 10-year-old wisdom he said, "Yes because now we know what it feels like to have everything a mess and depend on others. We can now help others when they are in their messes. Oh, how God humbles me with my sweet babies. They great a lot this summer. They learned to move and pack and play wherever and not necessarily with toys. From climbing trees to picking up sticks they kept busy and made some memories.
God brought some sweet friends closer this summer. He used so many to love us and take care of us in ways I never knew we needed it. Praise God for giving us more than we ask for or even imagine.
I hope I NEVER forget this process so I've included before and after pictures. Every wall got painted, almost every floor (only floor untouched was laundry and kids bathroom) and we had a complete master bath gut job. Now we have an even bigger job, making ALL the memories we can here on Wellington Dtive.
